Notes in the schedule
- One MET (metabolic equivalent) is the energy cost of standing quietly at rest, an oxygen uptake of 3.5 milliliters per kilogram of body weight per minute. When exercise testing cannot be done for medical reasons, a medical examiner may estimate the activity level, in METs and supported by examples, that brings on symptoms.
- Heart failure symptoms for this formula include, but are not limited to, breathlessness, fatigue, angina, dizziness, arrhythmia, palpitations or syncope.
- If non-service-connected arteriosclerotic heart disease is superimposed on service-connected valvular or other non-arteriosclerotic heart disease, VA requests a medical opinion on which condition causes the current signs and symptoms.
- The same formula is used, after their own temporary periods, for myocardial infarction (7006), heart valve replacement (7016), coronary bypass surgery (7017) and cardiac transplantation (7019).

How this rating fits a claim
The top level, 100%, is at or above the 60% that 38 CFR 4.16(a) sets for a single disability to qualify for consideration of a total rating based on unemployability. A rating under DC 7005 is combined with every other rating by Table I, never added; the calculator shows the result with your other ratings and dependents.
The rating is set from the evidence at the time of the decision, usually including a VA examination. If the condition has worsened since, VA accepts a claim for an increase on VA Form 21-526EZ; see how to request an increase.
